A recall routine that connects sound and spelling
Spelling Bee is not a one-look test. Learners hear a word, break the sound into manageable parts, and type the spelling themselves. That creates a different kind of recall from simply reading a word on a page.
Begin with short, high-frequency words and meet the same vocabulary again in its unit context. After an error, do more than reveal the answer: identify whether the pause came from pronunciation or spelling, then listen again.
Practical steps
- Replay only the difficult words immediately after a set.
- Use choice questions first for easily confused spellings, then move to typing.
- After checking an answer, say the word aloud and meet it again in a short sentence.
